About Me

I am a Ph.D. Candidate of the Political Science Department at the University of California, Irvine (UCI). I hold an MA in Political Science from UC Irvine (’17) and a BA in Political Science with a minor in International Studies from the University of La Verne (’14). As of Fall 2016, I am a Senior Pedagogical Fellow of the Division of Teaching Excellence & Innovation at UCI. My dissertation Educated into Violence: The Colonial Origins of Separatist Rebellion focuses on the post-colonial legacy of educational policies and minority separatist rebellion in the Philippines and Burma (Myanmar). My broader research agenda is focused on the development of nationalism across Southeast Asia. I have also presented on topics including social capital, monarchies, and the democratic deficit in Europe.

I have experience teaching across different campuses for courses in Comparative Politics; Southeast Asian Government & Politics; Research Methods; Model United Nations; and Nations. I have advanced pedagogical training and extensive experience in facilitating workshops for both faculty and graduate students on course design, assessment, active learning, and diversity training. Additionally, I have several years of experience in private tutoring at the high school and undergraduate level.

1I am the product of the mentors who came before me. Thus, I am actively passionate about mentorship and devote some of my free time towards advocating for girls/women in leadership (Women SPEAK; SPARK Leadership), global youth involvement (AIDemocracy), Filipinx-American activism, & alumni engagement with my alma mater. I am the proud owner of 3 dogs, Duchess, Princess, & Peaches who all maintain a strong stage presence during review sessions in my courses.
